Being a complete novice to all things arty, I felt the fear and did it anyway as I bought my beginners oil materials (Denise provides a list of exactly what to get) and headed to my first class.
My initial nerves almost instantly dissolved away as Denise made me feel very welcome and before I knew it I was splashing away on the canvas as Denise shared with us in her passion for art which I have to say is catching!! She subtly tended to each person in the group, generously giving out lots of tips and advice and of course, as all students love, praise :-)
One of the most wonderful things about the class is that you can paint whatever you like, in whatever style and way you want. There is an air of freedom in the class that I can't imagine you find in many art classes as each person looks inside themselves and releases their own in creativity in a supportive and fun environment. Very empowering stuff!! Half way through the class the coffee and tea and made and everyone has a chat and admires each other's paintings, or offers words of advice.
The only down-side to the class is that it ends too quick, and before you know it you're packing up, full of intentions to have the painting finished by the time next week rolls around, when Denise will cast her expert eye on it and give just right suggestions to turn your ordinary painting into a Picasso! Not bad for a monday night!!
At the end of the ten week course we had an exhibition of all the students work - very impressive work, a reflection of Denise's skills as an Art teacher and also the amount of hidden creativity most of us hold inside ourselves, just waiting to be released.
So go out and do something creative this Autumn, let your creative side out!! I'm looking forward to my next set of Art classes with Denise.
